Nature and trekking

Calvana Protected Area

Bisenzio Valley distinguishes for its large woods and ancient grazing. Bisenzio river flows and passes through the valley, and seems to cut in two parts the slope of the Appennines, up north of Prato. The river flows between two magnificent parallel slopes: on the left side there are the mounts of Calvana, bare with whitish limestone outcrops.
After significant karts phenomenon several caves have been created, some of them can be visited along with an expert guide, upon reservation.
The mounts of Calvana can be discovered through five different trekking trails and four adventure trails.

Monteferrato Protected Area

Even the right side of the Bisenzio river is very interesting; it can be reached through the road that connects Vaiano with Schignano. Very luxuriant, it is part of the Monteferrato Protected Area and can be hiked over many signaled trails. On the peak of the mounts Le Coste, named as “Spazzavento”, was erected the mausoleum of the writer Curzio Malaparte.

In the nature on foot and by bike

The walking and cycle path “Marco Pantani”, starts from Vaiano and arrives in Prato, along the river Bisenzio. From the Datini Bridge (in Prato) the railway station Prato – Porta al Serraglio can be easily and quickly reached: Florence, Pistoia, Lucca and Viareggio can then comfortably be visited. The path is connected with all the other cycle paths of the Province.
For details visit the website of the Municipality of Vaiano.

Ancient Gardens Itinerary

The Ancient Gardens Itinerary is very interesting: it starts in Prato with the garden and the vegetable garden of the Conservatory of San Niccolò and continues in the magnificent villas of the municipality of Vaiano.

Horseback Ridings

For those who like horseback ridings it is possible to book trips in one of the specialized equestrian centers of the valley.
